Jan 2022 - 40,000 Claimants could gain from PIP Review

04/01/2022
The Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) has conducted a review relating to activity 9 – engaging with other people face to face- and have found that up to 40,000 claimants could gain entitlement to Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

The exercise - which aims to identify claimants affected by an earlier Supreme Court judgment confirms that between 320,000 and 340,000 claimants are expected to have their claims reviewed as a result of the judgment and that, of these, it is estimated that between 30,000 and 40,000 claimants will be eligible for extra PIP.

In addition, asked what measures the Department is putting in place to prevent people who may be entitled to additional PIP from losing out, the DWP stated case managers will attempt to contact claimants, or their representatives, by phone, making three attempts at different times of the day, over a two-day period. They will also consider SMS text messaging to advise claimants that the DWP are trying to contact them. If it is not possible to contact them by phone, a letter will be issued and a reminder after 21 days. In total, claimants will have 28 days to respond.
