March 2022 – New Social Care Charging Provisions

03/03/2022

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued new guidance on social care charging arrangements for local authorities in England for 2022/2023.

The DHSC sets out the charging arrangements that will apply from April 2022 including that

The capital limits remain at their current level (lower capital limit £14,250 and upper capital limit £23,250)

The personal expenses allowance for local authority supported care home residents increases in line with inflation from its current level of £24.90 per week to £25.65 per week

The minimum income guarantee for people receiving local authority arranged care and support other than in a care home also increases in line with inflation

In addition, the DHSC confirms that the health and social care funding reforms announced on 7 September 2021 will be implemented by October 2023 (see our previous articles September 2021).
