October 2022 Cost of Living Payments Update

New regulations provide that in order to qualify for the £324 payment, claimants must have been entitled to a relevant benefit on 25 September 2022

The government has confirmed that the second cost of living payment will be paid between 8 and 23 November 2022 for those on DWP means-tested benefits and HMRC tax credits.

The £650 cost of living payment announced back in May 2022 is payable in two parts (the first payment having been made in July 2022) to those in receipt of a relevant benefit. The government has now confirmed that the second payment of £324 will be paid to those who were:

 Entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of Universal Credit for an assessment period that ended in the period 26 August 2022 to 25 September 2022

Entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of income-based Jobseekers Allowance, income-related Employment Support Allowance, Income Support or Pension Credit for any day in the period 26 August 2022 to 25 September 2022 or

Received, or later receive, for any day in the period 26 August 2022 to 25 September 2022, either a payment of tax credits for the tax year 2022 to 2023 r an annual award of at least £26 of tax credits for the tax year 2022 to 2023.

In addition, the government has confirmed that it will be paid automatically into the bank accounts of those eligible in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
