January 2023 - Confirmed victims of human trafficking or slavery eligible for housing

New regulations have been issued in relation to the eligibility of confirmed victims of human trafficking or slavery for housing and homelessness assistance and housing authority accommodation

Coming into force on 30 January 2023, the Regulations add confirmed victims of human trafficking or slavery who have limited leave to remain granted in accordance with the Appendix (Temporary Permission to Stay for Victims of Human Trafficking or Slavery) of the Immigration Rules to the categories of person eligible for housing assistance.

In particular, the new regulations introduce the changes by -

Amending the Allocation of Housing and Homelessness (Eligibility) (England) Regulations 2006 to add persons in receipt of limited leave to remain granted under the Appendix as an eligible class for an allocation of housing and homelessness assistance in England and

Amending articles 3 and 7 of the Persons subject to Immigration Control (Housing Authority Accommodation and Homelessness) Order 2000 to add persons in receipt of limited leave to remain granted under the Appendix as an eligible class for housing authority accommodation in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and homelessness accommodation and assistance in Scotland and Northern Ireland
